The Darin Tansey Legacy
Building a Permanent Home for Education in Las Terrenas
Dominican Joe Kids is working toward a permanent K–12 school and community center designed to serve students, families, and the wider Las Terrenas community for generations. At the heart of this new campus will be The Darin Tansey Building, created in honor of a founding board member whose generosity, leadership, and belief in education helped shape the Foundation from its earliest years.
What We’re Building
A Permanent Campus Designed for Learning and Community
The new Dominican Joe Kids campus will create a permanent home for K–12 education in Las Terrenas while opening the school to the wider community beyond the classroom.
Students will learn here during the day. Outside school hours, the campus is planned to support vocational training, English classes, and evening music and art programs, creating a space that continues to serve the community long after the school day ends.
The Vision Taking Shape
Designed for Learning, Connection, and Community
The plans for the new Dominican Joe Kids campus turn the vision into a permanent place built around how it will actually be used. Designed with Jaklitsch/Gardner Architects, the campus will support K–12 education during the school day while creating space for training, learning, and community programs beyond the classroom.
Inside the Campus
Three Levels Designed Around How the Community Will Use Them
The Dominican Joe School Campus is being planned across three levels, creating a permanent environment where education, shared spaces, and community programming can exist together.
During the school day, the campus will serve Dominican Joe Kids students. Beyond school hours, the same spaces are designed to support vocational training, English classes, music, art, and other programs for the wider Las Terrenas community.
A campus designed to remain active long after the school day ends.
He brought people together effortlessly.
The Darin Tansey Legacy
He Had a Way of Bringing People Together
Darin Tansey was a cherished founding board member of Dominican Joe Kids whose vision, generosity, and dedication helped shape the Foundation from its earliest years.
At fundraising events and auctions, Darin was often the person at the center of the room. As DJK’s charismatic MC, he brought warmth, humor, and energy to every gathering, creating the kind of connections that turned friends into supporters and supporters into part of the community.
Las Terrenas became his second home, filled with friends, laughter, dancing, and memories that lasted far beyond any single event. That instinct for bringing people together became part of the spirit of Dominican Joe Kids itself.
His spirit of generosity, leadership, and connection will remain part of this campus for generations to come.
